Truax Center is a private practice mental health clinic devoted to helping people achieve a greater sense of mental and emotional wellness. A counselor you trust can help in developing new insight and skills that can result in improved functioning, adaptation, and better relationships. Learning about yourself and how you are impacted by others and situations, and how you impact the world and the people in it can help you to make different choices to make your life better.
"The goal of counseling is not to acquire happiness, but the goal is freedom; to openly experience all that life is—and happiness becomes a byproduct."
—Peg Truax
Truax Center uses an online portal for client forms. New Clients will need to complete these prior to your first appointment. (If you are unable to use this method to fill out your forms, please ask for a paper option so you can get those completed in time for your appointment). Once you have an appointment scheduled, your counselor will send you an invitation to the portal to fill out these forms.
Sessions last 45-55 minutes. You can reschedule with your counselor at each session, or set up a recurring time that works for both of you
Appointments canceled 24 hours or less or NO SHOW will incur a minimum fee of $50, but Truax Center reserves the right to charge the full session fee for frequent late cancellation/no show. These fees are not payable by insurance. Please respect other's time and cancel well in advance if you need to cancel.
Clients that will be using their insurance benefit are encouraged to check with their insurer prior to the first appointment to know what their coverage allows. Clients with co-pays are asked to pay at the time of service.
Private pay is a good option for those who wish to retain their privacy, or do not have adequate coverage. Private pay fees are $180 for a session, but we have a sliding scale fee available upon request for low-income clients, and payment plans are available. For those paying privately, fees are due at each session.
We accept all major credit cards, HSA, cash or check. Truax Center uses Square, a secure online payment system, to accept and process payments. Clients paying privately, those with copays, or who incur a balance will be asked to keep a card on file.
Truax Center can accept the following health plans, please contact your insurer to make sure you are covered for mental/behavioral health services and Truax Center is in your network. This list may not be complete, so please check with your representative to see if Truax Center or your provider is listed in your network. You are responsible for making co-payments, and will be responsible in full for any denied claims.

Counseling and Therapy services are dedicated to helping individuals, couples, families or groups of people who are:
• Experiencing a current personal or relational crisis
• Affected by one or more traumatic life experiences
• Experiencing a physical or mental illness and need help coping with it
• Seeking better ways of operating or making better choices
• Wishing to make repair and restoration in their relationships
• Desiring to develop a stronger personal growth path
• Needing to develop greater resiliency to internal or external forces
Using different methods and techniques, your counselor will guide you in looking at your personal history as well as current choices, helping you to identify better ways of managing your life situations through insights and/or skill development. Your well-being can be based on your ability to maintain a sense of determination in your own life. A counselor can help you achieve the goal of well-being…in a culturally and spiritually respectful manner. The work and the success will belong to you!
Waiting can be a frustrating and hurtful experience for someone seeking counseling for important life issues. Please use the contact form below, call Truax Center at 651.276.2385 or the counselor of your choice directly, and leave a message with your questions or request for appointments.
At your first appointment, you will meet with your counselor and spend some time getting to know each other. The counselor will often ask questions and just talk with you to help you describe what you need from the counseling work. The goal is to help you feel better and counseling is about helping you tap into your own ability for health and healing. Truax Center staff are committed to valuing each person that walks in.
This is a good question, but very difficult to answer. So much of this depends on what issues are at work in your life, how you currently cope with them, and your own ability for making change happen. Sometimes, just having someone to talk to for a while can make a huge difference in a person’s life. Sometimes, the issues are complex and may require more time to work through. Your personal commitment to change and the work in therapy will have a great impact on your ability to be successful.
No, typically you don’t need a referral to call or email us for an appointment, but please check with your insurance plan to make sure you will have coverage for your sessions.
Your privacy is very important and is protected and your confidential health record is maintained in accordance with state and federal law. If you have further concerns about your record, please feel free to speak with your counselor.
