FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How can counseling/therapy help me?

Most people seek counseling or therapy because a crisis, trauma or some other life experience has made coping difficult. Sometimes relationships can just be hard to do and just talking with someone may help you navigate your way to making it better. There are many reasons why people seek counseling/therapy, and the work and the success will belong to you.

How do I make an appointment?

Waiting can be a frustrating and hurtful experience for someone seeking counseling for important life issues. Please call and/or email with your questions or request for appointments—they are usually responded to within 72 hours and often you can expect to be seen for an initial appointment within one week.

What will happen at my first appointment?

At your first appointment, you will meet with your therapist and spend some time getting to know each other. The therapist will often ask questions and just talk with you to help you describe what you need from the counseling work. The goal is to help you feel better and counseling is about helping you tap into your own ability for health and healing. Truax Center staff are committed to valuing each person that walks in.

How long will it take to feel better?

This is a good question, but very difficult to answer. So much of this depends on what issues are at work in your life, how you currently cope with them, and your own ability for making change happen. Sometimes, just having someone to talk to for a while can make a huge difference in a person’s life, but sometimes, the issues are complex and may require more time to work through. Your personal commitment to change and the work in therapy will have a great impact on your ability to be successful.

Do I need a referral?

No, typically you don’t need a referral to call or email us for an appointment, but please check with your insurance plan to make sure you will have coverage for your sessions.

I am concerned about my privacy, how does that work?

Your privacy is very important and is protected and your confidential health record is maintained in accordance with state and federal law. If you have further concerns about your record, please feel free to speak with your therapist.

How can I pay for my counseling?

Truax Center can accept many health plans, please contact your insurer to make sure you are covered for mental/behavioral health services and Truax Center is in your network.

If you do not have insurance, or wish to keep your therapy off the insurance record, private payment may be an option for you. The fee for private pay is $180 per session, but can be negotiated if this is not affordable. We accept all major credit cards, HSA, cash or check, and use Square or our own Portal for taking payments. Clients may be asked to keep a card on file, and this will be kept very secure and confidential.

Below is a list of current companies that list us as in-network providers. You are responsible for making co-payments at the time of services, and will be responsible in full for any denied claims.
